The turbocharger improves the engine’s volumetric efficiency by increasing the density of the intake gas. In order to perform its function, the turbocharger uses the outlet gas from the engine, converting the outlet gases loss in heat to mechanical energy. The turbocharger utilizes the mechanical energy to compress the gas heading into the engine.
