Glow plugs provide additional energy for starting your car, which is typically needed more in diesel vehicles. Glow plugs heat up to around 800 °C or more, warming the air in the combustion cylinders to make it easier for a cold-start.
Note: Most diesel engine’s only have glow plugs, and not spark plugs! Instead, these engines rely on compression to raise the temperature of the air. The diesel fuel is then introduced to the warm, high pressure air, and spontaneously begins combustion to drive the pistons and move the car.
